She's the stunt casting secret weapon in Jen McGowan's Kelly & Cal, trading in on her idiosyncratic 90's image to play a new mom who's left her past as the bass player for a riot grrrl group called Wetnap behind to live in the suburbs and rock a baby to sleep. I liked Lewis back when she was showing up in everything cool, but her energy is a little different now. She's far more relaxed, she comes across smarter, and that's a problem for the character of Kelly when she starts doing things that are really, really dumb.Kelly is caught between two alpha male beefheads -- her overworked husband and father to their newborn (Josh Hopkins) and next door neighbor Cal (Jonny Weston), a cocky wheelchair-bound charmer who introduces himself by telling Kelly she has "great tits." She's ecstatic that someone has noticed her boobs again, what with her husband's head down in his own work, so she seeks out a friendship with the teenage Cal. She gets to walk Cal through all of the things that made her cool way back when before mommyhood stole it all away (Manic Panic turquiose hair, demo tapes of Wetnap's single "Moist Towelette"), and Cal sees her as the one honest person in a town full of Stepford suburbanites.She ends up faking a job as a mentor to spend most of her time with Cal while her husband's mother (Cybill Shepherd) watches the baby. There's a lot of will-they/won't-they tension between Kelly and Cal, complicated by the fact that her husband's not a villain and that getting physical with Cal means she's shtupping someone barely legal (his age is never addressed but he's a Senior in high school). Kelly comes across so sexual and vital that the audience longs for anyone to acknowledge that she's wonderful, even if it does come from a petulant dickbag like Cal. Watch Kelly & Cal Online Free
